2009 Alfa Romeo 159 Official Photos, Details and Prices

After the official unveiling at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show, the new Alfa Romeo 159 is finally here, as the manufacturer released the official photos and details of their new creation. The 159 will be available in two body versions, a sedan and a sportswagon and two engine versions, a brand new 1.8l turbocharged petrol and a 2.0 JTDM diesel.

The new 1.8l turbo petrol engine, made by Fiat Powertrain Technologies comes combined with a six speed manual gearbox. The engine uses direct fuel injection, two continuously variable valve timing units, a turbocharger and a scavenging control system, all to give it the amount of power you would normally get from a 3.0l engine.

The 1.7l engine, using all its 200 horsepower, allows the 159 to go from naught to 100 km/hour in 7.7 seconds and to reach a top speed of 235 km/h (146 mph). The engine is Euro5 compliant, and will later be used on the Alfa Romeo Brera, Spider and the sportswagon version of the 159.

Fuel consumption for the 1.8l is set at an average of 8.1l 100/km, with CO2 emission averaging a (tree-huggers hold on) 189g/km.

There are two versions available for the new 159, the Progression and the Distinctive. However, buyers can choose from three trim levels: Sport (available only for Progression - it includes 17 inch rims, black/red interior, aluminum finishing), Premium (leather seats, multi-zone climate control) and TI (19 inch rims, black leather interior, sports seats and steering wheel)

The starting price for the new Alfa Romeo 159 is set at 28,360 euros, for the Progression sedan version. The car will go on sale in April.
