If you own a fifth-generation Mustang with a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 under the hood, you can already call it a classic. It's that popular. However, Ford's pony can also be had with supercharged 5.4 and 5.8-liter mills if you're looking for something bigger.
There's no doubt that those V8 powerplants sound amazing, but what if you could get more noise coming out of that 'Stang using something a little more different? A NASCAR engine perhaps? OK, so it sounds ludicrous, but it doesn't mean that someone out there is not determined enough to do it.
Take The Mustang Shop in Auburn, Washington, for instance, who sourced a 358 cubic inch V8 from one of Mark Martin's Winston Cup racer to fit it in a 2008 pony. To make everything work, they also had to mount a shifter and driveshaft purchased from Roush/Yates, and trim the stock hood to accomodate the carbon fiber air cleaner cover. Furthermore, the intake, cam and carburator were ditched for parts more suited to road racing, while the suspension was upgraded with a full Whiteline setup.
But enough with the details. This NASCAR-powered Mustang sounds gorgeous, and you can see and hear it for yourselves by hitting the play button on the videos uploaded below.
