20,000 lbs Kamaz Dakar Truck Drifting at 2016 Goodwood FoS Looks Surreal

Drifting has been a part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed for some time now, but this year's edition of the British event saw the sideways shenanigan reaching new heights.

Surreal. We'll repeat the word used in the title as there's simply no better way to describe a Kamaz Dakar truck, which tips the scales at around 20,000 lbs, letting its rear end dance on the Goodwood Hillclimb.

The 1.16-mile course is tight even when it comes to cars, but watching the Kamaz machine doing its sideways thing on the narrow stretch of asphalt will leave you speechless - even when driving straight, the truck can barely fit on the course. Admitedly, the greed part of the course did get a bit abused in the process.

The diesel engines on these trucks can deliver north of 900 hp, but this is also a motorsport discipline that has been tamed by emission control, with 2016 seeing new regulations being introduced, such as an engine displacement upper value of 1,006 cubic inches (16.5 liters).

And while oil burners ususally don't deliver the most enticing soundtracks, we have to admit the suck-squeeze-bang-blow concert of this monster is in a league of its own.

Still, this motivates the team to work on cutting weight, a process that also sees the trucks' weight distribution being improved. And this is a key area when it comes to drifting. As you'll be able to notice in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, though, the Russian truck had no issue in getting seriously sideways on the Hillclimb.

Heck, this heavy duty drifting almost makes the Mad Mike Whiddett tire-smoking adventures we brought you earlier today seems simple.

P.S.: One area where the Kamaz Dakar truck can't follow Mad Mike's 1,000 HP Mazda RX-8 is the parking lot, so the Aussie slider remains the only drifter over there.
