Corvettes come in all shapes and sizes, from monster tracks to drag strip machines and today we want to discuss a C6 Z06 that wants to become the fastest Corvette in the world.
The vehicle was recently strapped to a dyno, delivering around 2,000 horses to the rear wheels, but there’s a twist here. Its owner claims the current setup sees the twin turbos operating far from full capacity and that the massive shot of nitrous hasn’t even been used.
To be more specific, this ‘Vette is motivated by 427 CI small block LSX V8, which works with a pair of 88-mm turbochargers, while using direct-port nitrous injection. As we said, the turbos now deliver 55 lbs of boost, but can go an extra 20 lbs.
All the muscle is harnessed by a stick shifter - a Borg-Warner T-56 that’s been heavily modified. This car is used for one-mile races and the owner explains he only gets to use four of the six ratios. The Corvette used to rely on a three-disc clutch, but that got fried, so it now uses a four-disc carbon-on-carbon piece.
Yes, that is correct. Despite its aim, this Z06 still runs in full street trim, from the soundproofing to the air conditioning and the other amenities.
