With 2,000 hp Nissan GT-Rs having almost become normal nowadays, the crashed such machines inevitably end up going through have also evolved as the power boomed. And we're here to talk about the most recent accident of this kind, one that's almost impossible to watch without cringing.
The Godzilla in question is running a Switzer Performance setup, being run by a crew that calls itself Team Insanity Racing. We mentioned the name since commissioning a two-thousand horsepower build without a rollcage is certainly insane, but not in a good way.
Regardless, the pumped-up supercar recently attended a half-mile event, with the driver obviously aiming to squeeze every possible mph from the machine. And while the GT-R did manage to deliver a rather impressive 218 mph trap speed, the racecar didn't get back to zero in one piece.
As it happens in most such cases, the issues started once the driver took his foot off the gas and started the deceleration phase. While we can't be sure a locked wheel led to this, the Nissan ended up spinning, with the speed behemoth getting inches close to a situation that would've seen it rolling over.
In fact, it's amazing how the machine managed to stay an all four even after it left the tarmac - the piece of footage at the bottom of the page provides an exterior view, as well as the terrifying in-car take, so you can get a perfect idea of what the guy behind the wheel went through.
Nevertheless, don't let yourself tricked by the frenetic camera movement in the clip: that was the GoPro flying around the cabin, not the GT-R flipping.
The driver fortunately walked away unharmed, and this isn't the only piece of good news we have for you. That's because the team announced they'll fix the 2,000 hp beast as soon as possible, all with the aim of hitting 225 mph in the half-mile. Here's to hoping they add a bit of weight with that cage.
