103 Cars Doing a Simultaneous Burnout: World Record in Australia, Summernats 2015

Want to try and guess which country holds the world record for the most monstrous group burnout? In case you've thought about Australia, not the US, you were right. And to make sure they keep the title, Aussie petrolheads pulled an even greater tire-melting stunt on New Year's day, beating their own record.

It all happened on December 31st, 2014 at the Summernats 2015 event, with no less than 103 cars burning their tires for the sheer fun of it. Like we said, this brought a new Guinness World Record for a simultaneous record.

When the organizers were preparing the fest that took place in Canberra, they were aiming for a nicely rounded 100 vehicles, so it was nice to see that number was exceeded. In case you were wondering, the previous record, which comes from Summernats 2013, was set by putting 68 cars to work, so, even though the rides weren't going anywhere while melting their tires, this was a major step forward.

Muscle cars? Of course, there were plenty of them lending a V8 hand under the hot sun, but the line-up included plenty of utes, vans and even an ice cream truck - just like with the ice cream machine that took place in the Gumball Rally, this sort of vehicle appears to have a special appeal. In fact, the scene was flooded with custom vehicles that had received tons and tons of work, so the sheer sight of them was enough to bring joy to the attenders.

The extreme burnout trick was pulled in the first of the four days scheduled for this year's edition of the event, which means that while you are sitting comfortably and reading this, the Aussies are petrol-partying again.

In case you want to get a good taste of their adventure, the clip below serves as a good roasted rubber taster.
