1,000 HP McLaren F1 Successor to Debut at Pebble Beach

The Brits at McLaren have been in the racing business for so long that it almost seamed natural they could make a rival for the Ferrari 458 Italia. They quickly moved to upgrade the MP4-12C and give it the character that was lacking, and now they’ve turned the focus of their attention to the F1 successor project.

The car known internally as the P12 is much closer to being revealed than we originally thought. According to CarsUK magazine, the successor to the famous McLaren F1 will not wait for the Paris Motor Show in September and will instead debut before a very private audience at the Pebble Beach concourse next month.

The car may be called 799, but will not make 800 or 900 horsepower as was originally expected. Instead, the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine will be able to make 800 horsepower on its own, and will get a boost worth another 200 horsepower rom the Kinetic Energy Recovery System.

McLaren will not let the car go after the Bugatti Veyron’s top speed, but the zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) time of just 2.5 seconds will probably be better than the new Enzo or the Porsche 918.
