When Honda came up with the S600 in the mid-60s, this was the automaker's first mass marketed global machine, trying to build a name for Honda through its diminutive sportscar ways. However, some of the people who own S600 today are not exactly pleased with the power-to-weight ratio of the 1,600-pound (730 kg) vehicle, so they turn to the aftermarket side of the industry.
The Coupe example we have below might just be the most extreme of its kind, with the contraption delivering over twenty times its original power. Out went the key car-worthy 600cc engine delivering 57 hp, making room (quite a lot of it) for a Toyota 2JZ engine.

As you've probably guessed by now, we are dealing with a contraption destined for drag racing, one that sees its stroked 3.2-liter six-pot being pushed to north of 1,000 ponies. That kind of muscle comes courtesy of two billet turbochargers using 88mm front wheels and 94mm back wheels.

This 1965 Honda is now the home of a long list of delicious tuning parts. From the methanol injection system and the Turbosmart blow-off valves, through the Haltech PS2000 ECU and to the Proglide automatic tranny, this is an absolute brute. And we're not even close to mentioning the full list of mods this Honda has been gifted with.

With the pair of turbos mentioned above delivering 24 psi of boost, this S600 Coupe delivered jaw-dropping dyno results, showing 1,002 hp at the rear wheels, hence the title above.

However, this is the kind of contraption that makes Australia the kind of tire smoke-addicted place that it is, so expect to meet this S600 Coupe at the drag strip. After all, if we got our hands on an eight-second car, we'd spent quite a lot of time around the Christmas Tree, so we can't hold anything against Phil Penny, the driver of this four-wheeled insanity.
