Just as we told you, Japanese carmaker Subaru prepared for the Tokyo Motor Show the new Impreza WRX STi Carbon, a model that comes with several carbon-made parts, especially aimed at cutting weight and improving final performance. The sport hatchback thus features a carbon fiber roof, "which gives the car better hp/weight ratio and lower the center of gravity," as Subaru mentioned in a press release.
Interiors have been customized as well with more luxurious materials, providing much more comfort to passengers than the A-Line model it is based on.
There are two engines available, a 2.0-liter turbo developing 308 horsepower and 422 Nm of torque and a 2.5-liter turbo unit releasing 300 horsepower and 407 Nm of torque. The engines are mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox.
Earlier this year, Subaru launched the Impreza WRX STi Spec C, a model that comes with engine and chassis upgrades.
The car comes with a wide array of improvements, including an intercooler water spray that prevents rise in intake-air temperature, which translates into constant engine performance and improved efficiency. Furthermore, ball bearings of the turbine axle were newly adopted to reduce friction in the turbocharger, Subaru explained, which means the 2.0-liter 16V turbocharged unit that generates 308 horsepower is now benefiting from a smoother and quicker throttle response.
The body is also lighter, as the spec C comes with an aluminum engine hood and a downsized battery. Laminar glasses were adopted in the front and side windows while the 18-inch alloy wheels reduce unsprung weight. Additionally, a flat tire repair kit is standard.
