Mercedes G-Klasse EDITION30 and G-Klasse EDITION30.PUR Anniversary Models

The 30th birthday of one of your most popular models is surely a moment asking for a bottle of champagne but, since we’re talking about the automotive industry, how else can you celebrate the occasion if not by releasing some new anniversary versions? That’s exactly what Mercedes did a few days ago as it rolled out the G-Klasse EDITION30 and the G-Klasse EDITION30.PUR, two versions specifically aimed at celebrating the 30th anniversary of the G-Klasse.

As expected, both models boast a wide range of exclusive elements, including interior and exterior parts that clearly differentiate the standard and these two anniversary models.

First of all, the Mercedes G-Klasse EDITION30. This model is based on the G 463 series fetures designo platinum black paint finish, light-alloy wheels and the special EDITION30 badge mounted on the wings. Interiors have been customized with designo leather and special trims in anthracite poplar wood.

The G-Klasse EDITION30.PUR on the other hand is based on the popular long-wheelbase G280 CDI model and sports two different off-road packages with options such as flexible wheel arch flaring, protective grilles for the headlamps and lights and towing lug at the front. Interiors are now featuring fabric or hand-made leather seats plus spray-protected controls and drainage apertures in the footwells.

Both models will be available through Mercedes’ authorized dealerships starting mid-February 2009, with the EDITION30 and the EDITION30.PUR to cost 97,461 and 59,391 euros, respectively.

Mercedes sold nearly 200,000 units of the G series since its official introduction more than 30 years ago, according to Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler AG. "We have sold 200,000 examples of the "G" to date. The vehicle is now more successful than ever, and the customers are more enthusiastic than ever. Perhaps we will be celebrating yet another major anniversary in ten years time,” he said.
