Mercedes-Benz announced today it has become the first automaker to offer matte paint finish as a factory option for its vehicles. The matte paint, which turned to be a popular tuning feature in the last few years, is included in the carmaker’s 2011 designo customization program and has received the MAGNO name.

Mercedes claims it offers a superior scratch resistance, compared to regular paint and that it hides minor dirt and dust better than traditional finishes. We’ll have to see the latter to believe it.

The designo program also includes other special paint finishes as well as a wide range of tailor-made interior features. Mercedes offers hand-stitched leather finishes and trim elements that use finishes like wood, glossy, deep black piano lacquer and natural stone. The new exterior colors include Allanite Grey, Cashmere White, and Platinum.

For 2011, the designo options are offered for a wide range of Mercedes-Benz vehicle, with the list including the E-Klasse, S-Klasse, CL-Klasse, SL-Klasse, SLS AMG, M-Klasse and G-Klasse.

Owning a Mercedes-Benz vehicle is an extension of personal style. The designo program empowers customers to select from a myriad of exclusive trims, distinctive colours and top quality materials to design a vehicle that reflects their own discerning tastes and individual preferences,” said Marcus Breitschwerdt, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada. “The elegant and graceful lines of our sedans, the aggressive styling of our coupes and cabriolet models and the ergonomic and luxurious interiors for all our vehicles provide an ideal starting point for customers to build their own, bespoke masterpiece.
