Karl Baumer Moves at the Top of BMW Welt

With so many car manufacturers making changes in their management board, it was high time BMW began to make its own managing modifications, probably to better cope with the financial downturn.

Starting with February 1, Karl Baumer, who was leading BMW Classic Group since 2007, became head of BMW Welt, while Rudolf Wiedermann, the last holder of the position, went to BMW Group Brand Management. Thus, Baumer will lead both BMW Group Classic and BMW Welt, whose functions have been combined.

The promotion is more than deserved as he has been working for BMW for 27 years. He first joined the Controlling division and after that, he was in charge with product marketing for the BMW 5 Series range. He then assumed various top marketing positions within the German luxury automaker.

"With BMW Welt and BMW Group Classic, we have two important tools for brand leadership and presentation," says Karl Baumer, regarding his new task.

As for Wiedermann, he moved to BMW Group Brand Management, where he will in future be responsible for the Marketing Governance and Operations Division. His new responsibilities include trade fairs and events, market research, Corporate Identity and marketing innovations for all three of the Group's brands.

"It is great to be able to carry over my enthusiasm for the BMW brand, which has defined my whole working life to date, to the Group's other brands," Wiedermann said about his new position.

Wiederemann has been in the company for more than 30 years. Most recently, he worked for seven years in BMW Welt, including five years as BMW Welt project manager and, after the completion of the building, another two years as head of BMW Welt.
