Ford Sells 400,000 Edges in 4 Years

American manufacturer Ford announced today it has reached a milestone last weekend, after selling the 400,000th Edge model since its introduction in 2006. According to Ford, the figure represents more than any other midsize crossover managed to achieve over the same period.

Sales of the Edge increased 33 percent over last year, or twice as much as the overall industry sales. The carmaker says the 2011 Ford Edge SEL and Limited account for some 80 percent of all Edge sales. The arrival of the new version in dealerships will help boost the sales.

“Edge competes in one of the fastest-growing and most fiercely competitive segments in the industry,”
said Amy Marentic, Ford’s Crossover Group Marketing Manager. “Still, Edge is growing sales at an incredible rate.”

“Edge defined the crossover segment when it was launched in 2006. Ford has taken a great vehicle and made it even better. The new Edge promises to take the segment to an all-new level.”

The new Edge is being offered with a choice of three new engines, paired with two new transmissions. The powerplants are 3.5l V6 and 3.7l V6 (both mated to a SelectShift Automatic transmission) and a 2.0l EcoBoost I4.

The model comes equipped with MyFord driver connect technology, SYNC, Easy Fuel, SecuriCode keyless entry keypad, Blind Spot Mirrors, MyKey, AdvanceTrac with RSC, Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning with Brake Support, Cross Traffic Alert, 22-inch wheels and paddle activation.

EPA rated the vehicle's fuel consumption at 19 mpg city (12.4l/100 km) and 27 mpg (8.7l/100 km) highway for the front-wheel drive version.
