All Middle East Audis Use Energy Recuperation

The fast rise to power of a system referred to as kinetic energy recuperation system (KERS) has transformed the automotive world in a very short time, with more and more manufacturers going for the technology when creating their cars.

In Audi's case, the implementation of the system was quite fast and currently there's barely a single Audi model to be found without KERS. In the Middle East for instance, there are currently zero Audi models without the system in the region.

All 39 models offered by the German manufacturer in Middle East use such a system. An intelligent control system increases secondary voltage of the alternator during coasting and braking and then converts kinetic energy into electrical energy, stored temporarily in the battery.

When the throttle is pressed, the car is powered by using the electricity stored in the battery, reducing the load at which the alternator operates.

"Efficiency is standard in every Audi. We don't need a marketing claim for it, because it is what Vorsprung durch Technik means,” said Jeff Mannering, managing director of Audi Middle East.

“For Audi, efficiency is the sum of many individual steps – many of them invisible to the customer, from engine sector, ancillaries and transmissions to energy management, body construction and driver assistance."

The German manufacturer plans to invest EUR5.5 billion ($7 billion) in between 2010 and 2012 in the development in new materials and technologies which will help it achieve even better efficiency, including new products, lightweight construction, and drive technologies.”
