This picture shows what Hyundai's next subcompact vehicle looks like, leaked online just ahead of what will likely be an official debut at the Beijing Auto Show. It's supposed to be called the ix25, at least in Europe, and Hyundai USA executives have said it could and should  be sold in their dealerships. Quite an important vehicle then!
The smallest crossover Hyundai will make looks quite butch and masculine. The front grille and headlights are similar to the ones on the new ix45/Santa Fe. We don't know if it's actually purple, though that wouldn't be surprising given the segment is filled with funky cars. The Citroen Cactus, for example, is neon.

And speaking of the Cactus, let's examine what the ix25 will have to go up against. Opel Mokka, Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur – all these front-wheel drive European cars are very successful. What Hyundai is doing to impress customers is to take on a slightly more serious persona.

The platform for the ix25 is believed to be shared with the new i20, although the fact that it's being launched in China and previous spy photos of the interior lead us to believe much older technology might be used.

For its Chinese debut, the ix25 will come with very simple engines, like a 1.4-liter four-cylinder. All-wheel drive is unlikely to be offered on any trim level, since 99% of buyers never take it offroad.

We'll likely know more about the crossover on April 20th, when the Beijing Auto Show will host its debut.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
