2013 Opel Allegra Coming to the B-Segment

Downsizing is about to get a whole new meaning in 2013, when the small car segment defined until now by the Fiat 500 will get a bit crowded. That year, Opel is planning to launch the Allegra, a model which will be slotted in between the Agila and the Corsa.

Opel's new entry on the segment is, according to AutoExpress, known for now as the Junior within Opel's ranks. It will be a new addition to the range of small cars launched by Opel and it will not be replacing the Agila, who according to rumors is getting ready to take on the Ford Ka from 2014 with a whole new face.

The insiders who have leaked the information about the Allegra say that the model will not look as docile as today's small Opel cars look, but will boast a more Astra GTC look. It will feature an aggressive look, enhanced by LED daytime running lights.

Under the hood of the new Allegra, Opel will tuck a range of small displacement engines, starting with the 1.0l unit. This version will offer, according to the source, a very attractive fuel consumption figure, of about 3.5l/100km (67 mpg). The range of power plants will be of course larger, but there aren't any information available on them yet.

As for the price, Opel will launch the model right up the alley of its competitors. The most likely starting price for the car, when it is launched later in 2012, will be of about EUR12,580. More details on the car are expected to surface in the coming weeks.
