2011 Porsche Cayenne, 16,000 Orders in One Month

We are willing to bet a good chunk of money on the fact that German manufacturer Porsche wasn't even dreamt of having 16,000 orders for the new Cayenne in one month... Yet, they've made it, despite the economic ups and downs (obviously, more downs) and despite its not so great financial situation.

According to the latest figures, the Cayenne managed to be enough of an incentive for the 16,000 people who will have to pay in between EUR55,431 (Cayenne) and EUR115,526 (Cayenne Turbo) for one.

One of the most appealing Cayenne models turned out to be the Cayenne S Hybrid, a model which attracted some 15 percent of orders (keep in mind the S Hybrid was launched this month, one month after the other versions). The new hybrid, fitted with a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 combustion engine and an electric motor, delivers a combined power output of 380 horsepower and delivers the lowest level of exhaust emissions in the entire Porsche line-up: 193g/km CO2.

Porsche's new Cayenne was released at the Geneva Auto Show this March. The range got for the first time a hybrid version which offers the performance of a V8 engine and the fuel efficiency of a gasoline-powered V6. As for the rest of the Cayenne range, three of the five versions provide an mpg average of less than 23.5 mpg (10 liters/100 km).

The success of the range was obvious for Porsche ever since April this year, when CEO Michael Macht predicted “an incredibly high order intake from almost all markets“ (it would appear we lost the good chunk of money we bet at the beginning of this piece...).
