Opel teased this car, the upcoming Astra drop-top last year, and it should have been released already, but thankfully they are spending more time with it and introducing the same features as on the facelift of the hatch and wagon.
The car you see here, undergoing winter testing for the first time, is based on the same Delta II platform as the rest of the Astra range. Though it might look like it has a solid roof arch judging by the chrome at the top of the doors, this is in fact a prototype with no roof. When it goes into production, it’s expected to have a fabric roof, not a metal one like the old generation.
On the tech side, the Astra Cabrio will share the HiPerStrut (High Performance Strut) and Watt’s link rear axle with the GTC. The engine range will also be borrowed, and will top out with the 180 hp 1.6-liter turbo.
