While this isn't the first time we've seen the BMW 5-Series prototype testing in preparation for the F10's Life Cycle Impulse. However, this is the first time we've seen a plug-in hybrid version of the popular executive car.
Back in 2011, BMW showed a plug-in hybrid concept at the Shanghai Auto Show. This actually market the beginning of their hybrid model offensive, but never actually reached production. The production model could also make its debut in Shanghai, as the show opens in April, perfect timing for the F10 LCI's production debut in June or July.
But the 5-Series will also get some new regular powertrains as well, starting with a six-cylinder replacement for the N55 in the 535i, and continuing with the updated V8 for the 550i, which will have 45 hp over the current model.
For 2013, the BMW 5-Series will have its indicators integrated into the mirrors, which isn't exactly a ground-braking feature. But it will come with option full-LED headlights and new, more modern angel eyes that are squared off at the top and bottom. With production to debut this summer, we'd hold off on buying the current 5er if it can be helped.
