Sightings of the BMW I8 are much more uncommon than say a 1-Series GT, but we do love the look of this beast, especially now that it’s go a more production-ready form for us to look at. This thing is simply stunning now, with its scoops and wings that channel air for the sake of performance and efficiency. What’s more, our spy photographers managed to take a shot of the i8 in a controlled slide, and you can clearly see that the driver is rally enjoying the hooning around.
From the look of this prototype, it looks like the doors also open upward a bit, a necessity given the high sill that’s uncommon for a norma sportscar.
The i8 supposedly makes use of an advanced new hybrid drivetrain that combines a turbocharged three-cylinder engine that drives the rear wheels with a powerful electric motor motivating the front.
Production of this excellent halo car is scheduled to star in mid-2013 at BMW’s Leipzig plant. It might be the first BMW to get laser headlights.
