With the Fiat - Chrysler alliance preparing new models, the guys over at Lancia are pretty busy these days to use the technology provided by the American carmaker for their future products. One of the models that could be based on a Chrysler platform is the future Ypsilon, which is scheduled to arrive on the market sometimes in 2012. Of course, not many things are known about the car, but today's set of spyshots reveal similar dimensions to the current model.

As it always happens with new models, Lancia will most likely work on the engine range to improve fuel efficiency and power, so expect more advanced powertrains to be offered on the upcoming version. Furthermore, a hybrid or an 100 percent electric Ypsilon could also be in the works.

If we are to trust rumors that surfaced earlier this month, the next-generation Ypsilon will be officially revealed as a Lancia at the Geneva Motor Show in March and will go on sale in the UK at the end of 2011. Although Chrysler sees long-term potential in the Ypsilon, it doesn’t expect to sell more than 1,800 next year.

But the Ypsilon is not the only model to be inspired by Chrysler and some of the models it currently sells on the domestic market. The Delta is also likely to borrow design cues from Chrysler, especially in the UK, where the only differences from the American models are likely to be the grille and the badge.

The Delta will be offered with a choice of five engines, including a twin-turbocharged 1.4-liter diesel and a 1.4-litre Multijet petrol engine. Satellite navigation will be offered as a standard feature on higher-end trim levels.
