Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the B-Class Electric Drive, at the Paris Motor Show. It features a 135 hp electric motor which draws its juice from the usual lithium-ion battery pack, yet it has a range of 200 km (124 miles), which would put it comfortably ahead of any of the other EVs currently on the market.
The car also benefits from Mercedes’ new Energy Space modular platform, which has the advantage of being endlessly configurable, to suit various applications. If it does arrive on the market, some time in 2014, it will redefine the segment, as its range will put it comfortably ahead of all other EVs on the market, except for the Tesla Model S, but that’s in a different price bracket altogether.

We genuinely hope it makes into production, as it will force other manufacturers to match or surpass its specs, thus driving EVs forward more than any law or tax incentive ever could. There should be more promising EVs, such as this one, in order for people to begin accepting the idea, and imagine integrating them into their lives without giving up too much.
