On the Javis Center floor of the New York Auto Show, MINI announced a very interesting car, the second generation of the limited-run John Cooper Works GP. The brand will show this racier version of the already track-focused JCW at the MINI United Festival in May.
While no extra information has been made official, we believe this to be a sort of swan song, the last hurrah, for the current generation MINI hatback.
As most of you probably already know, the GP was a limited production car (very expensive) that came with a tuned supercharged 1.6-liter engine. It dispensed with the rear seats and replaced them with a stiffening.
We already have spy shots of the GP II, and can show you its body kit. The suspension gets lowered onto a set of lightweight alloy wheels. Our favorite part of the car is the back, where the lower bumper hugs the twin exhaust in a very cool, sporty way.
Rumor has it the Cooper GP II will have 220 horsepower from its tuned 1.6-liter turbo. We’ll know for sure in a month’s time.
