MINI Clubman Concept Shows Us the Boot at Geneva

One of the most exciting concepts MINI ever made is this year’s Clubman. The car that’s bound to enter production next year showed up at the Geneva Motor Show 2014 to let us know that it means business and it won’t take no for an answer.

To sway the audience, the MINI was introduced with all doors open and there are 6 of them: 4 traditional ones, 2 on each side of the car and 2 more at the back, in a typical British barn-style look that will make this model a rarity on the scene in the upcoming years.

The red paint on the exterior is shining like there’s no tomorrow and the overall feel you get from the Clubman is of taste. In typical MINI fashion, the front fascia doesn’t digress too much from the usual styling cues we’ve been getting used to. The same circular headlights and the same grille shows up but little details truly make the difference, like the ‘MINI’ inscription inside the headlamps.

Around the side you can’t miss on the new wheels featuring while contour lines altogether with the new handles and mirrors, now located on the front doors. The rear bumper features the same overall shape as on the Cooper S hardtop with two tailpipes together in the middle.

However, the most interesting bit is the interior. The layered dash looks absolutely brilliant with a the classic center speedo being replaced by a huge round screen showcasing an animation that will take up most of your afternoon if you’re not careful. The speedometer and the rev counter are located behind the steering wheel and feature the same style of animations, going all virtual.

The steering wheel is divided into two different styles but also keeps true to the MINI style. The center console has been created to draw a separation line between the driver and the passenger compartment. It’s also decked with buttons and useful indicators as well as a redesigned gearshift stick covered in Alcantara.

The color red dominates the interior alongside Alcantara and textile materials with typical British design but the biggest surprise comes at the back.

With the doors open, the Clubman Concept introduces you to a new way of carrying groceries and other things. Instead of a spare wheel, the boot now has a storage space in which you can easily put a suit and other clothes, as showcased at Geneva. It’s actually quite an interesting approach that makes you take a step back and reflect on how your own car is being used right now. Check it out in our live photos.
