Now that Schumacher has retired from F1 once again, the 44-year-old simply can’t have any kind of occupation, he needs to race. For this year, the seven time Formula One world champion is returning to his roots - kart racing.
Previous reports indicated that the German would be a test driver for the Italian kart producer Tony Kart, but now the Spanish El Mundo Deportivo newspaper tells us that Schumacher will race.
The pilot will compete in the KZ class and the image gallery below shows him testing with Tony Kart on the Lonato track in Italy. The images were captured last week, with Schumacher reportedly posting “very good” lap times.
But the German won’t just stick to the wheel this year - Schumacher has arranged for a new championship-level karting circuit to be built in Cologne, Germany. The circuit will be designed by Hermann Tilke and aims to be “the best track in Europe”.
