Louis Vuitton’s first campaign under the creative direction of Nicholas Ghesquiere features the ultra rare, one of a kind, 1972 Maserati Boomerang concept. Having photographer Juergen Teller’s capturing the aura of luxury, edge and exclusivity, the presence of the eccentric car-concept stands a shocker by itself.
Even though fashion is obviously not our field of discussion, in this particular case our super car radar just went off when we saw Italdesing’s spectacular 1972 Maserati Boomerang concept in photos taken by Juergen Teller. It seems Boomerang is part of the Fall/Winter fashion campaign of the French luxury brand.

Designed by Giorgeto Giugiaro, the fast car was built atop Maserati Bora mechanicals and is one of a kind, literally. This beauty was firs revealed at the Turin Auto Show in 1971 as a non-functional model, but by the time the 1972 Geneva Auto Show came around the company had worked it into a fully functional vehicle. The design of the Boomerang would resonate through Giugaro’s future designs for many years.

Its sharp angles and wedge shape could be easily seen in the VW Golf 1, VW Passat, Maserati Quattroporte III and other models. Powered by a 314 horsepower 4.7-liter V8 engine driving the rear wheels, it comes with a 5 speed manual transmission, having a fully decked out interior. Besides other futuristic features, it comes with a unique dashboard layout where the steering wheel and gauge cluster are part of a single console that emerges from the dash, and the steering wheel rotates around the stationary gauges.

Even though it was fully registered as a road car, the Boomerang always intended as a one-off show car. It was shown in dozens of places, and after the 1974 auto show in Barcelona it was sold to a private individual. But if you want to take a better look just check out the video below.
