LEGO Mark I Mini Cooper

From the Italian Job to rallying, the MINI Cooper MkI did it all in its long life between 1959 and 1967. It’s quintessentially British styling and diminutive scale made it popular, while the low weight also made it one of the more frugal cars of its time.

With a wheel at each corner, it was also fun and practically invented the go kart feeling for cars. This classic iconic status was what determined Spanish LEGO builder extraordinaire Sheepo to create a scale MINI after he was done with the amazing Porsche 911, which took him a year and a half to finish.

Thankfully, the MINI was a bit more simple but its bubbly shape also posed some challenges when it came down to the scale build.

It has an opening hood that hides a straight-four engine with moving pistons, opening doors and a functioning interior with two rows of seats.

LEGO Technic pieces allowed him to create independent suspension for all four wheels, with double wishbone front and longitudinal single-arm back, and working steering system. As we’ve come to expect from Sheepo, it’s an RC car that really works and has four selectable gears for he engine.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
