Modern automakers have discovered that they can make a lot of extra money by putting their name on other products, and then selling them on at higher prices, just because they are ‘branded’.
However, in China, it seems you don`t even need the manufacturer’s approval to put their name on anything you want, and a carnewschina.com reader discovered a Land Rover energy drink. The discovery was made on a supermarket shelf, in the city of Guangzhou, and its label has what appears to be the Jaguar logo, two Chinese letters and Land Rover.
We are absolutely sure that this is not an official product, and we would have a hard time considering J-LR a serious manufacturer, if they would have resorted to this.
It`s not like their sales in the region are bad – they aren`t, and China has become one of the group’s most important markets. Perhaps this is why other non-automotive companies decided to ‘borrow’ the name…
