BMW Vision Turns ConnectedDrive, Heads for Geneva

Back in 2009, German auto maker BMW presented a vision at the Frankfurt Auto Show, one of a future when its supercars will be more or less electric, but definitely extremely good looking. The concept was called Vision EfficientDynamics and, even if perhaps BMW had no real plans for it prior to the show, the success of the presentation made them take another shot at a similar vehicle.

This year, this second attempt will take the shape of the Vision ConnectedDrive, a concept study meant to “demonstrate current and future methods of mobile networking in a particularly focused way.”

In essence, the two concepts are pretty much the same, but with a few differences that set the one to be shown in Geneva in another category all together. Whereas the EfficientDynamics was all about the power train (three engines, a new 3-cylinder turbo diesel and two electric motors on each axle), this one is about the technology meant for the driver: comfort, safety and the infotainment. Secondly, the ConnectedDrive has been designed as a roadster.

The exact details about the model have not yet been revealed, BMW hoping to keep the interest of the visiting media to high levels. As usual, more info will become available as we get closer to the official opening day of the first European auto show of the year.
