Ford Motor Co has taken the wraps off the next-generation Ford F-150 full-size pickup truck, which is scheduled to debut at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show today and go on sale as for the 2015 model year.
As rumored since last year, the new truck is 700 pounds lighter than the model it replaces thanks to an aluminum alloy body and increased use of high-strength steel. Described as “the toughest, smartest, most capable F-150”, the new truck will feature 11 new class-exclusive features and a brand new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine.

Other engine options will include the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 (standard), the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 and the familiar 5.0-liter V8. The 6.2-liter V8 will no longer be offered once the current generation truck goes out of production.

As far as styling goes, the 2015 F-150 borrows several cues from the Ford Atlas concept, especially in the front area, where the large grille and the new headlamps were paired for a bolder appearance. The interior is more stylish than ever, while new features will include 360-degree camera view, integrated loading ramps stowed in the bed, 400-watt power outlets in the cab, LED headlamps, mirror spotlights and remote tailgate release.

Scheduled to go on sale later this year, the 2015 Ford F-150 will be offered in five trims - XL, XLT, Lariat, Platinum and King Ranch. Ford is also offering a chrome appearance package, a sport package and an off-road package. More info on the brand new truck is available in the press release below.
