Mitsubishi chose the New York Auto Show to announce pricing for its new Outlander SUV and to preview their PHEV version as well.
The lines of the previous Outlander were nothing to brag to your girlfriend about, but at least it was easy to understand. This new model tries to be more futuristic and in doing so becomes a mess of curves we struggle to like.
The good news is the 2014 Outlander is quite cheap. Prices start at just $22,995 for the base ES model with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine.
You don't want the basic model though, because at just $23,795, you can get the SE model which adds 18-inch alloy wheels, 6.1-inch touch panel display, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, push bottom start and many other goodies.
If you feel a 2.4-liter engine is sluggish for such a big car, which it might very well be, than he 3-liter V6 which comes with the top-of-the-line Outlander GT is war you're after. The model costs a bit more, at $27,795, but also gets SiriusXM satellite radio, HID headlights, wood trim and paddles for the automatic gearbox.
Next year, you'll be able to buy the plug-in hybrid version of the Outlander, which promises to deliver the best economy figures around in the segment. Mitsubishi also unveiled their urban car yesterday in New York. It's called the "Mirage" and it will be available this fall.
