Scheduled to enter the assembly line starting July 2013, the 2014 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet has completed its first testing session on the drag strip.
The last NHRA Stock and Super Stock machine based on the current generation Mustang was tested at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Adel, with Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords editor Evan Smith and Ford Racing chassis engineer Andy Vrenko as test drivers, but no data was released.

Revealed in late March, the 2014 Cobra Jet gained a new three-speed race transmission with SFI approved housing a new parachute mount for speeds exceeding 150 MPH. In addition, the Michigan dragster now comes with two new custom colors, “Gotta Have It Green” and Cobra Jet-exclusive “Flat Black”, just like the one tested last week.

The 2014 pony dragster is powered by the same 5.0-liter TiVCT engine and Whipple 2.9-liter supercharger combo as last year’s iteration. Limited to only 50 units, the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet costs $97,990 without optional paints and graphics.
