Nissan has launched a slew of photos of the all-new 2013 Pathfinder SUV, which right now is only bound for the North America, as Europe might not receive this product any time soon. The big news is this vehicle, which we believe to be related to the Infiniti JX, is going to be offered as a unibody vehicle, not a body-on-frame. This increases on-road compliance but decreases the Pathfinder’s flexibility off-road.
The other main advantage besides better ride quality is weight, as 500 pounds (227 kg) of it has been shed over the outgoing model, which means that the Pathfinder now weighs as little as 4,149 pounds (1,882 kg) in the case of a front-drive version.
In case you were worried it’s become a big softie for soccer moms, don’t be, because the 2013 Pathfinder has an impressive towing capacity of 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg).
The only engine offered is Nissan’s 3.5-liter V6 matched to a new generation of efficient Xtronic CVT. This combo sends 260 horsepower either to the front wheels or all four via the 4x4 system that offers selectable 2WD, Auto or 4WD modes.
"It's no secret that the industry has shifted as gas prices have increased," says Al Castignetti, general manager of Nissan North America. "But while traditional SUV customers are looking for improved fuel economy, they still demand a vehicle that can do all the things they need, like carrying seven people, towing, and providing the surefootedness in all conditions of a four-wheel drive.”
