This is a first for a non-SUV AMG model, and it is available on both the sedan and the estate. Engine-wise, Mercedes-Benz has retained the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8, which produces the same 557 hp and 720 Nm. The aforementioned S pack boosts those figures to 577 hp, while torque is also up by 80 Nm - 800 Nm in total.

Regarding the addition of optional all-wheel drive, the manufacturer argues that while the extra weight brought about by it doesn`t affect performance. In fact, Mercedes argue that the 4MATIC system actually makes the car faster. Also, since AMG-branded Mercs are renowned for being a bit over the top and a tad wild, all-wheel drive models will now be more sure-footed, for those drivers who value grip above tire smoke.

Check out the car in our HD gallery below and try to spot all the little changes Mercedes has made on this, over the model it replaces. Sadly, we did not have a chance to also photograph the estate version of the car, which judging by the press photos is on par, if not better in terms of overall appearance, with the sedan variant.
