The latest version of Mercedes-Benz’ popular E-Class has just received a facelift, which aims to keep the car fresh for the 2014 model year. For the most part, the makeover is successful, but it does mean the loss of a very special E-Class trait - split headlights, which are one single unit, on the latest car.
The trademark quad headlights have been replaced by more conventional ones, which give the front end of the car a radically-different look. They also include LED daytime running lights, which have been shaped so that they still give the impression of quad lights - full LED headlights are also available as an option, and the E-Class is currently the only car in its segment to offer this option.
Engines are left untouched - the top of the range non-AMG model, the E550 still packs the same 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, with 402 hp, mated to seven-speed autobox, which drives the rear wheels.
Inside, the car is said to get some material quality improvements, and the most evident change is the centrally-mounted analog clock. Kit-wise, the revised E-Class Cabriolet gets a stereo multi-purpose camera, which is integrated into the rearview mirror. As part of the Driver Assistance Package, it works in conjunction with radar sensors and gives the car a complete view of the road ahead - it has automatic emergency braking or AEB.
