2012 Hyundai Azera New Photos and Technical Specs Released

Previews, videos, spy-shots an renderings, we’ve seen them all from the Azera. Perhaps there’s just to much good information about the car for it to be released all at once, or the company wants customers to be giddy with anticipation. Whatever the reason, we just received new information and pictures on the Hyundai mid-size sedan that will take its place between the Sonata and the Genesis.

This time, it's the turn of the engine options for the Korean Domestic Market version, which will continue to use the Grandeur nameplate. According to the info, the Azera will come with a choice between two naturally aspirated engines, both featuring direct-injection technology. The base model will be powered by the same 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder gasoline unit found on the Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima.

However, the flagship model will come with a 3.0-liter GDi V6 delivering 270 hp and a peak torque of 302 Nm. The four-cylinder engine will return an average fuel consumption of 30.1 mpg (7.8 l/100km), with the V6 averaging 27.3 mpg or 8.6 l/100km.

Though it is likely it will only be offered with the V6, Hyundai has not made any comments or announcements regarding the powertrain options for the North American version of the Azera.

The bold styling reflects Hyundai's 'fluidic sculpture' design language taking cues from both the smaller Sonata and larger Genesis with a hint of Equus at the rear, using pronounced rear wheel arches. We are especially fond of the car’s rear light assembly that offers a long reflective strip connecting the two sides across the boot lid.
