The car went under the hammer and was sold for no less than $2,420,000 (€1,753,000) thanks to the guys from RM Auctions. Part of the Pray Collection, the 507 was offered with its original engine, verified by BMW classic and with all the original parts still on it.

It wasn’t such a hard feat to do either, since the roadster had only 17,563 km (10,908 miles) on the odometer and was in perfect shape. The 145 BHP, 3,168 cc V8 engine under the bonnet, fitted with dual carburetors and hooked up to a 4-speed manual transmission still purred like a mighty cat.

The 507 Roadster, that was built as a cheaper alternative to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, was brought to the US by none other than Max Hoffman so that he could sell it to American customers looking for a couple of extra thrills with the top down.

Unfortunately, even though it was cheaper than the Merc, at $11,000 it was still quite expensive and only 252 units were ever built, including the one we’re looking at today that was owned by none other than a certain Mr. Friedland, an enthusiastic participant in Sports Car Club of America races in which he raced even this exact car, alongisde a McKee Ford and an Elva Mk VIII.

The car was sold to Mr. Pray in 1972 that never sold it but kept it untouched for 8 years until, in 1980, he decided it was time to restore it to its former glory reupholstering the seats, quarter panels, kick panels, door panels and dashboard with red Connolly leather. The wool carpeting and interior wood trims were repaired or replaced over the years alongside other minor work.
