Reaching the million kilometer (621,000 miles) mark with a modern car has become increasingly difficult in this day and age, and that mostly happens for two particular reasons.
First of all, longer distances are usually made by plane, as it is cheaper, faster, and statistically speaking also safer.
Second of all, there isn't really enough time for someone to reach that mileage, as nowadays most people change their primary car every four years or so, and there aren't even so many taxi drivers that do 250,000 kilometers (155,000 miles) per year.
The Maybach 62 whose lavish interior is shown in the photo above is most definitely the Maybach model with the highest mileage on the planet, having achieved over one million kilometers between 2004 and 2009.
Impressive? You bet, especially since apart for some almost invisible scratches, both the exterior and interior are pretty much like in the day that it left the factory in Sindelfingen.
The car belongs to Josef Weikinger, a businessman from Lichtenstein, who enjoyed the car for so many miles simply because, in his own words, he could never find a better alternative to the big 62.
Costing around EUR 450,000 when new, the car consumed about 167,000 liters (44,116 gallons) of Super Plus fuel in total, which means that mr Weikinger could have bought himself a Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG W221 with the money he spent on fueling his Maybach for five years.
As another interesting statistic, if the car had spent that million kilometers doing 80 km/h (50 mph) without stopping, it would have reached the million kilometer mark in about 521 days, which is about a year and a half of driving without stopping even once.
The Maybach 62's total mileage is also about two and half times the medium distance to the moon or going around the Earth about 25 times.
