Gary Paffett Finishes in Points at Zandvoort [Photo Gallery]
Unfortunately, Gary Paffett was the only Mercedes-AMG C-Coupe driver to finish in points this weekend, taking up ninth position after qualifying 12th. Team mates Christian Vietoris finished in 15th position, while Robert Wickens and Daniel Juncadella arrived in positions 16 and 17, respectively.
The race was won by BMW driver Augusto Farfus, but it wasn't enough to stop second place finisher Mike Rockenfeller to win the DTM champion crown one race before the end of the championship.
“My congratulations to Mike Rockenfeller on winning the DTM championship title. He drove a fantastic season and has earned the title. We’ve tried to beat him, but unfortunately, without success. Ninth place is a disappointing result for me, but not much more was possible from grid position twelve. We chose a very aggressive strategy with two pit stops early on, because we knew that overtaking at this track would be quite tricky, especially without the help of DRS. This tactic worked well initially, and helped me to move up a couple of positions, but unfortunately, towards the end of my long final stint, I didn’t have enough grip to go on improving. With a better grid position, I could probably have been fighting for the top positions. At the season finale in Hockenheim, which is a home race for us, well, I just hope to be back among the front-runners once again and end the season on a high note.”
The last race of the season will take place on home ground for the Mercedes-AMG DTM teams, but any result there will be in vain for the driver's championship, with the only title still on the table being that of the constructor's championship, where the Stihl AMG Mercedes team is still a contender.
