Renault 9 is a small car manufactured by Renault between 1981 and 1986 being then replaced by Renault 19. Renault 9 was also marketed in the United States with the help of American Motors Corporation under the Renault Alliance name. Moreover, the American car manufacturer introduced a two-door sedan edition of the car as well as a convertible edition in 1984. Thanks to its advanced features, Renault 9 was named the European Car of the Year in 1982 while the American version received the Motor Trend Car of the Year award in 1983. There were multiple engine configurations for Renault 9, starting with a 1.1- and ending with a 1.8-liter, developing between 48 and 82 horsepower.
