The 2001 facelift brought forth a series of changes that restored customers' confidence in Mercedes-built products, mainly the A-Klasse. Despite the brand's prestige and countless innovations, the original 1997 released A-Klasse had been built with an emphasis on efficiency while major design and engineering details seem to have been overlooked. Before failing the famous Swedish "Moose-test", several glitches were discovered in the car, ranging from cheap, badly trimmed interior to timing chain failure. However, such flaws and many more, mainly poor-quality material related, were corrected through the 2001 refresh.
