BMW 7 Series (E38) (1994 - 1998) Description & History

BMW launched the third generation 7 Series in 1994. Based on the new E38 automobile platform, the BMW 7 Series was available in both Europe and North America (standard or long wheelbase, the latter only in the United States). One year after being introduced to the American market, the new 4.4L V8 variant of the 7 Series was equipped with a glass sunroof replacing the previous steel one. Finally, some new safety features were available as standard options starting 1997 (for the 1998 year model), including side impact front airbags and a Head Protection System. Rear airbags were also optional since 1998. Thgis model received a slight facelift in 1998, preparing the market for the 4th generation model in 2001.
