BMW 3 Series (E46) (1998 - 2002)
BMW 3 Series (E46) (1998 - 2002) Description & History

BMW introduced its fourth generation 3 Series in 1998. Based on an entirely new E46 automobile platform, this entry-level luxury car featured several exterior & interior changes and received some new or updated engines. Initially available only in a sedan body configuration, the 3 Series came with a choice of five versions - 318i, 320i, 323i, 328i and the 320d diesel - and received an optional steptronic transmission a year later. In 2000, BMW introduced the new M54 powerplants and replaced the 328i with the new 330 variant (3.0L) featuring some cosmetic updates and redesigned exhaust system. Model's last update before its 2002 facelift happened also in 2000, with BMW developing a high-performance M3 model based on the 3 Series chassis and bodywork.
