Designed as a spacious estate car, the Alfa 156 Sportwagon underwent its first major facelift in 2003. The new model featured a redesigned aggressive front section and was available with newly-developed diesel engines. One year later, the Alfa 156 Sportwagon was introduced with a Q4 configuration (Alfa's designed all-wheel-drive) benefiting from a 1.9L 150 PS engine. This new model featured exactly the same components and exterior design as the initial Sportwagon, but had a higher ground clearance. The Alfa 156 Sportwagon was discontinued in 2005.
