The BMW 1 Series Coupe Replacement Is Nearly Here [Photo Gallery]
Most of us already know that the F22 2 Series will replace the the E82 1 Series coupe. It is a move made in the same fashion in which the 6 Series came to life and the 4 Series afterwards. BMW is bringing out a whole new model for the coupe versions of already popular cars.
What we know about this new 2 Series is that production of some models will start November. We'll also see an M version, similar to the 1M Coupe but slightly bigger and heavier.
From the spyshots we can see that the 2 Series will have a different look, especially on the front side, BMW deciding to leave the F20 1 Series front look behind. It's not the same move they did when replacing the 3 Series two-door. The new 4 Series kind of takes after it's brother the F30 and shares a similar front design.
If the rumors that the M235i version will start production around November are true, then that means we can expect the possible unveiling of the new model to take place at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
Regarding the engines, we don't think that much will be changed, because it doesn't have too. Of course, at launch we'll see just a couple of available engines, like the 228i and 235i for the US market, whilst in Europe we might see additional diesel engines like the 220d and 225d. Also, if the BMW marketing strategy won't be changed until the new model will be released, we'll see xDrive versions of the 2 Series and automatic gearboxes.
