It seems to be official: BMW is working hard on the new X1. One of their prototypes was just spotted by our spy photographers on public roads somewhere in Germany, under heavy camouflage.
The last time we saw it, the upcoming crossover was sitting on a flatbed truck, moving from one testing facility to another. One thing is for sure though, this model is a really early version, as it seems to be using pre-production headlights.
The brand new model will be using the UKL front-wheel-drive platform alongside the new MINI and the 1 Series GT, allowing BMW to cut down their costs and increase the profits. Also, the new FWD system will probably allow the designers to use the interior space more efficiently, making this car even more practical.
Since the new X1 is expected to be at least the same size as the current one, the engines BMW will offer for it will most likely be a bit more powerful than the ones found on the 2014 MINI Cooper that has been confirmed with a 1.5-liter 136 HP unit and a 2-liter 192 HP one.
