You might say that we can't be sure that this is actually the real i3 and you'd be right, but judging by what the reviews said it looked like inside and the official photos we had up until now, we pretty sure this is the real thing.
The exterior was almost unveiled already. No big surprises there, even though we didn't expect it to look so much like the Concept. Don't get us wrong, we love how it looks and we're pretty sure it will be popular.
The interior is the one that's going to surprise you. Most people expected even this car to be done in the traditional BMW way, forgetting that the i3 was built from the ground up as an electric car. Therefore, the interior finis was bound to be totally innovative too and that's exactly what we got.
The materials used are completely different from the usual. The door panels use natural fibre and lightweight wood and so does the dash. The steering wheel has only two spikes and the iDrive system and speedometer seem to be standalone items animated by liquid crystals.
Even the center console is different, lacking the usual gearshift knob (replaced by a hefty controller on the steering column) and having only the iDrive touch controller on it and a cup holder. The air vents and overall looks of the dash use angular lines, a feature that is scarce is any BMW you can think of.
Seeing just how good the interior looks we can't wait to get our hands on the mega city-vehicle. As reported earlier, the i3 will start at $41,350 in the US, before tax cuts and €34,950 in Germany. You can expect the first cars to be delivered around November.
