MINI Countryman Assembled Locally in Malaysia

Back in the 1980s MINI used to assemble its cars as far east as Malaysia, more exactly the British Leyland Mini Clubman, in Shah Alam, Selangor. Nowadays the British company's cars are assembled in Oxford, some parts in Austria and in the near future a plant will be opened in the Netherlands.

Now, MINI is building its 4-door model, the Countryman in Malaysia. The first one was just delivered to the BMW Group Maysia Assembly Facilities within the Inokom production complex in Kulim, Kedah.

“The move to assemble the new MINI Countryman in the country provides the opportunity for the transfer of superior quality assembly line technology, practices and standards to Malaysia,” said Dr. Gerhard Pils, CEO of BMW Group Malaysia.

This marks the first modern MINI to be produced in Malaysia and South Eastern Asia at the same time. The factory only assembles the Cooper and Cooper S versions of the Countryman, the latter only in ALL4 guise.
