While we're constantly on the pursuit of happiness, we often forget how to enjoy the simple things in life. One of these simple things is going for a ride in a warm summer day with the roof down.
The roof of a convertible, of course. The guys from Auto Motor und Sport took the best mini convertibles to the sea shore to compare them and have some fun too, while they were at it.
First up, but last in their comparison, comes the Citroen DS3 Convertible, fitted with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that develops 156 HP and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft), hooked up to a manual 6-speed gearbox.
Even though it has more than enough power, the Citroen falls short mostly because it's not a true convertible but rather a convertible saloon with a large folding roof. Actually this is an adapted convertible that takes after the saloon and you'll feel it all the way.
Runner up comes the Fiat 595C Abarth, with a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that develops 160 HP and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft). Even though it's the most powerful one of the line-up, the turbo lag will definitely drive you crazy. Furthermore, being tuned by Abarth, the suspension is not the most comfortable one you'll even encounter. And that's put mildly.
The outstanding winner is the MINI. It's a purebred Convertible and even though it has only 122 HP coming out of its 1.6-liter engine the go-kart feeling is still there, making you feel at home.
The MINI wins not only because it's a great car, but also because it has everything the others don't. The Citroen is too big, whilst the MINI is reasonably small, the Fiat has a lot of turbo lag and is uncomfortable, whilst the MINI drives like always and doesn't break your bones while at it. Perfect!
