Fitted with BMW's own, intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the SUV will make sure you benefit from the advantages of the world's most powerful inline 6-cylinder diesel engine at all times, with perfect traction. Likewise, the exterior design will let everyone know that what you are driving is not to be messed with.
The new BMW X5 M50d has everything on its side. The six-cylinder in-line diesel engine uses no less than 3 turbochargers and, of course, common-rail injection. The engine noise was reduced also, giving the car a more subtle and smooth feel.
The 3-liter engine manages to develop 381 HP and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque thanks to those technologies. Speaking of technologies used in the new car. BMW BluePerformance should be mentioned as the M Performance automobile is EU6-compliant, just like most of the BMW line-up.
At the launch only the 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox will be available on this model and standard features also include Adaptive M suspension (with the Dynamic Damper Control) and air suspension at the back. The Electric Power Steering is also included but we're guessing that's not so appealing for the usual BMW enthusiasts.
As for numbers, the M50d reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.3 seconds whilst keeping the fuel consumption in check, with only 6.7 l/100 km (42.2 mpg), in the EU test cycle, while CO2 emissions remain at 177 g/km.
